Future biomedical scientists start PhD training with the potential to become many different types of scientists with a wide array of interests, skills, and careers. During PhD and postdoc training, they acquire complex skills and knowledge sets and identify personal and professional priorities. They gradually evolve (i.e., differentiate) into one of many careers. But how much does the path you take during training influence where you can go next? For example, if you are interested in an academic career, does completing a postdoc in industry make it more difficult to transition back to academia? Conversely, if you hope to pursue an industry career, can an academic postdoc provide valuable preparation, or might it make the transition more challenging? This webinar will explore how training environments can shape career opportunities and provide guidance for scientists weighing different paths.
